What is Shrink Wrap Material, and how does it work?

In the shipping industry, the word shrink wrap material refers to any sort of film that is used to protect cargo from damage while in transit. It is typically made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET films are translucent and flexible, which makes them excellent for use in the packaging of food items. They are also long-lasting and simple to apply.

Types of Shrink Films 

Shrink Wrap Hoods made from PVC are used to protect goods from harm while they are being transported. It is frequently used for extra protection on wooden pallets, boxes, crates, and shipping containers.

Heat Shrink Film is a 200 or 250um plastic film that can be heated shrink-wrapped around your product. It not only protects against UV rays, but it also acts as a barrier against potential damage from wind, dust, and pests.

VCI Anti-Corrosive Films also offer an excellent universal protection system. These films are lined internally with Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI). These molecules migrate to metal surfaces, providing protection from moisture and corrosion replacing traditional rust preventatives such as oils and desiccants.

Understanding the differences between Heat Shrink Wrap and Stretch Wrap

Stretch Wrap is a thin type of plastic film (10-25um) that is used to commonly wrap palletised goods. It stretches around the pallet load, stabilising the goods, whilst providing minimal protection.

Heat Shrink Wrap is a more durable, thicker plastic material (200-250um), when heated, can be moulded to encapsulate larger industrial-sized equipment.
