Our client was in possession of 5 Oversize Chambers that needed to be shipped to Russia. Due to the size of the vessels, 40’ Flat Racks were chosen as our shipping platform. Our job was to protect and securely lash the units providing adequate restraint for the extreme conditions that Sea Transport presents.
The chambers had no tie-down points apart from lifting lugs, requiring custom lashing points to be created. The installed eyebolts protruded below the chamber leg bases, creating clearance issues that needed addressing for stable transport.
The vessel weight demanded adequate restraint against multiple sea transport forces, while the chamber shape limited protection options to heat shrink wrap only. Varying tie-down point locations and ratings across different flat racks added further complexity to the lashing design.
Rated eyebolts and nuts were installed directly to the chamber support legs to create secure lashing points where none existed. The lashing methodology and load restraint levels remained consistent across all five units despite varying flat rack tie-down configurations.
Timber and rubber cradles were packed beneath the steel support legs to accommodate eyebolt protrusion. Rubber placed between timber and steel increased the coefficient of friction, ensuring stable positioning and preventing movement during the demanding sea journey to Russia.
