A specialist engineering company contracted AXIS Industrial Solutions, to custom design and build a set of wooden crates suitable to transport marker buoys by road and sea. A total of ten crates were required each with the capacity to hold 42 marker buoys. Each of the buoys needed to be separated within the crates.
Ten crates were needed to hold 42 marker buoys each, with every buoy secured and isolated in the most space-efficient, cost-effective manner while ensuring balanced weight distribution throughout each crate during transport.
The crates had to accommodate buoys initially without cement-filled bases, then hold the same buoys after cement filling, requiring a 2-tonne capacity per crate. A last-minute shipment deadline change meant the entire project needed completion within a two-day turnaround.
AXIS custom-designed and built 10 open-slatted crates with solid bases and plywood internal fit-outs to stabilise and isolate each marker buoy. The lower support template used 18mm plywood while the upper section used 7mm plywood, reducing weight without compromising stability.
The high-specification design guaranteed a 2-tonne holding capacity for cement-filled buoys. Efficient production and re-scheduling enabled AXIS to meet the critical two-day turnaround, ensuring the client’s transportation deadlines were achieved without compromise to quality or safety standards.
